Here’s a rant for you, just to get a little something off my chest.
Even though here in California we don’t have typical fall weather, it’s still my favorite season. I hate the heat, I don’t do well in it. I also hate the summer slump. If you don’t know what that is, you probably don’t own a handmade business.
This is going to be a negative, self loathing, complaint filled post, so if you’re not down with that, I suggest you wait for my next post 🙂
It’s been a long time coming, but they have finally arrived! My painted clutches are assembled and boy, are they beautiful! I kind of want to keep them ALL for myself, but as I already promised I’d be selling them, I suppose I can’t go back on my work…
I’m still working on a few finishing touches, like adding wrist straps and cross body straps to a few of the styles. The straps will be removable for those of you who would prefer to carry them in hand, of course.
June is filled with fun things! Because of this, my shops will all be closed periodically.
I’ve been toying with the idea of putting my art on products for some time now, but this week I have been putting in the work to actually make it happen. As an artist, it’s such an exciting thing to have ways to get your art out into the world, without necessarily having to sell all your originals. Now, that’s not to say I don’t want to sell ANY of my original works, because believe me, I have STACKS of paintings in my home… but I also have my favorites hanging on my walls, and I have grown accustomed to seeing them there.
I’m back! The last few weeks have been a little overwhelming, what with the preparing for my Arts Walk, the cancelling of my Arts Walk, the mental breakdown that came from said cancellation, and then picking myself back up from feeling pretty lousy about the whole thing. I also was without a phone for almost a whole week which was extremely frustrating, due to the necessity of apps like Instagram and Snapchat for my art, as well as Poshmark for selling my clothes. But this week I have a temporary phone, and a little room to breathe.
It has been a truly busy couple of weeks! There have been quite a few times where I wanted to jump on here and post something, but then I would think about something else that needed to get done, and off I would go!
This week I’ve got the Riverside Arts Walk, on Thursday night, and I’m almost fully prepared! Yay! I have done so much making in the past week or so, in order to add a little heft to the collection I’m taking with me. I also decided not to bring any canvas paintings, as this is more of a craft fair. However, I did decided to mat some of my paintings on paper, and seal them in cellophane bags. They’re so much less bulky and won’t take away from all of the signs and jewelry I’m taking, but they will however show what I am capable of as an artist.
The Arts Walk always feels like it comes up so fast… It’s 3 weeks from today and I still have sooo much work to do. Most of my earrings are not ready-to-ship items, as they’re relatively quick to make. But I want to take them to the Arts Walk, so I have to get assembling! I also have to make price signs for each item, add them to my Square account, figure out the setup, and get everything packed up in time. It’s a lot.
A few weeks ago, my mom came and stayed with Eric and I for a few days. We were finally able to go shopping together for the supplies for the painted clutches that I mentioned a few posts back. We ended up hammering out all the details and I was really glad to see how excited she was by it. I showed her all the different clutch shapes as well as card cases, passport holders, and key chains. It all started to feel real once I purchased the fabric and vinyl. We settled on a few details that I was having a hard time making my mind up about (Thread color, velcro color, etc) and that definitely helped ease my mind.
