I’m going to start my period on Monday. If you’re uncomfortable with this knowledge, I suggest you leave now.
Do you want to know how I know? For one, I recently went back on birth control, as a way to regulate my extremely random cycles. The other way that I know, is because in a failed attempt to take apart our Brita pitcher for cleaning this morning, I began to cry and also rage, wanting to throw it through a window and be done with it.
This is a monthly occurrence for me. The few days leading up to my period all the way through the few days following, I am an emotional wreck. The slightest thing can set me off (Like the Brita pitcher debacle) and I will cry at the drop of a hat. It’s unfortunate, but it’s the way it is.
I also suffer from excruciating pain, not only cramps, but severe back pain and terrible migraines. It is a week that I dread every month. However, I am fortunate to have a very understanding husband. It definitely helps that he grew up with 2 sisters, so he was prepared a bit more for dealing with it. This is the week that he will likely hear “I’m not making dinner tonight,” quite a few times, as well as my complaints that I am dying, and THIS is the worst period I’ve ever had, always forgetting how bad the last one was.
He also comes home to find me curled in a ball on the couch, wearing my most comfortable and disgusting pajamas, probably smelling kind of gross, and looking like I haven’t showered in a week. But through all of that, he will be supportive and loving. He will make us some dinner, he will be sweet enough to rub some muscle pain cream on my back, and he will not remind me that I said my last period was the worst ever.
He WILL remind me that I am not actually dying, although he will apologize for the extreme pain I am in, even though it’s not his fault. He will be understanding when he asks what I did today and I tell him I didn’t do anything. It’s amazing how much of a difference it makes for me emotionally, knowing that he understands.
